I love this headshot of Thistle and Xander.....
Our Border Collie, Luke ....getting to be quite a "big boy"...he's about 8 months old now. Luke has become a wonderful farm dog and can't wait to go with us every morning and night for chores!! He's learning....and definitely has the aptitude for herding! Right now he does a great job rounding up the guinea fowl and keeping the nasty Tom turkey away from me...that's good enough for me!! LOL

Early morning.....

On a happier note.....

There's one in every crowd....and here, it's Cody. He LOVES the snow! Did I mention that he LOVES the snow? I mean, look at him! He would stay out for hours on end and actually prefers the outside to being by the woodstove, can you imagine? Me...well, if I had my "druthers"....give me a nice mug of hot chocolate, a good book (or Shetland Sheep NASSA news), sidle up to the woodstove....heaven! I used to ski alot, and loved it, but my knees yell at me now. Maybe I could try cross country skiing again...or just get on the rowing machine in a nice warm house and wait for Spring. I DO enjoy a day like today, though.....sunny and in the 30's with no wind. I can accept that....for now.

Sad day at Kindred Spirit......

Yesterday we had to let an old friend go.....our old Brittany, Jesse, who came to us from rescue, needed us to be strong.....it was a very hard task. She was much loved and spoiled while we had her in our life. Jesse came to Kindred Spirit from a kennel situation as a rescue and was a pretty neurotic girl, but soon came to know that she was loved.....and safe. She enjoyed this Christmas and a new bag of stuffed animals.....her favorite! We will miss you, Old Girl!

It's always nice to see all of the different types and colors of sheep in the flock. I love them all for different reasons.....with some, it's their personality!! Cappuchino, the ewe on the left in the top picture, was dancing around the pasture today with such abandon that you would swear she was a lamb! (Her picture is at the top of this blog...when she WAS a lamb!) The lambs in the bottom picture were just plain wild....kicking up their heels and jumping from the stone wall. (This was just a little break in the action) I guess they were all feeling good today...we had a bit of a break in the weather and temps were in the high 20's!! The rest of the week is supposed to dip back down into the "deep freeze". How is everyone else doing? Ready for Spring lambs and warmer weather, yet?

New for 2010.....our first lamb of the season! Kindred Spirit Farm Blue Moon was born early yesterday morning and was a very nice surprise! She's a little gulmoget out of our musket ewe Painted Knoll Nettle and Painted Knoll Sunapee, an obviously persistant musket gulmoget, and boy is she cute. Maybe this is a preview of things to come for us in 2010....more ewes! Not sure if we will be calling her Moon or Luna....this years lamb crop will be star constellations and such. "Once in a blue moon" happened for us yesterday.....
Happy New Year everyone!!!
