How many more days until Spring, Mom????

Saturday, December 5, 2009

It's snowing!!!! Okay, I'm still not really ready, but it sure is pretty. I got a few pictures today before it started, but now I'm anxious to see what it will look like tomorrow morning. Until then....here are a few pictures.
One of our friendliest ewes is Toots...so far Pippin, her lamb, isn't exactly following in Momma's footsteps. She was pretty friendly until she and two other ewe lambs spent a month at a local farm stand. I swear when she got home she was wild! Her two buddies, Aberdeen and Bonnie come around for chin scratches, but Pippin is taking her time. I guess we better stock up on animal crackers!
Little "Rosie" seems to be smiling at the camera! She's such a cutie! I tell you what....next year we WILL have coats for the sheep during hay feeding season. In the meantime....pick out the crap while they're eating their treats, right?
I know this is a blog primarily about our shetlands, but I DO love my Oberhaslis!! This is "Sophia" hamming it up for the camera while "Nadia" looks on......"Kelly" is in the background. "Stella" was most definately eating....somewhere!
Our new llama "Sam"...so far so good!

Sleepless nights and Leonid showers

Well, Ken and his buds are off to "boys camp"...also known as Hunting Camp, but we wives know better! Actually, Ken is more into bringing his camera and communing with Nature...he just likes being outdoors! Having said that....now you know why I'm having sleepless nights and was up to see the Leonid showers! It was pretty cool at 3:00 a.m. here in New Hampshire, but well worth bundling up for! Just going out at that time of the night/morning....whatever....well, it's just plain beautiful! The crispness of the air fills your lungs....the stars really do twinkle....and there goes a meteor! It was magical....

Breakfast at Tiffany's :-)

Okay...it's not a sheep, but I love this picture of Mrs Wilson sharing Cody's breakfast. My big ol guard dog....who guards and watches from the huge dog yard...I just couldn't leave him in the barn! He definitely lets us know when things are out and about, but what a love, too! Mrs Wilson (and Ella, her "sister") go into the dog yard and snuggle up to the big lug and "knead" on him....he just looks at me and sighs.

November.....

November always seems to just "appear" on the tail of Autumn and all the beauty that goes with it. November doesn't have the color and pizazz of October or the anticipation of December and the coming snows that blanket everything with WHITE......it just IS. I commented to Ken the other day about how I really don't like November...it's very blah. He laughed and reminded me of the beauty of the stark trees and their finger like branches as they reach for the sky, the clouds that gather with the impending snow storms to come, and the leaves that continue dance across the lawn. How can you not love someone who reminds you of the beauty in even the darkest and most blah times of the year. As I sit here this morning enjoying my tea, I can see the sunrise just starting to peak over the mountains out front....the silhouette of the mountains with hints of blue, a touch of gold and a blush of pink and branches etched across the sky.....exquisite! November has a beauty all of it's own. Thanks, Ken.

It was a working weekend.....even Luke was tired! (Tim took a break from guard duties to take a snooze). We moved some fence netting to separate the 4 ewe lambs and give them more room to play. The call ducks got moved into their new quarters ( still have their pool for now) and the chickens got moved into their roomy coop. Fall is when all the loose ends need to be tied up before those North winds start to blow!! I don't look forward to winter right now, but it's because there is so much to do! Once the rest of the wood is stacked (three more cords to go), and the first snowflakes fall....I'll snuggle up to the woodstove and relax!
I love how the mountains change with every season....and the full moon, too. Some of the winter shots are spectacular.....I'll keep you posted! For now, I'm going to stoke the stove...it's getting chilly.

We got "hitched"!!

This has been the most wonderful of weekends....I am going to have to keep my eyes and ears open, though, as now I know just how good Ken is at keeping secrets!! We had planned our wedding for Saturday and I knew my son was coming from California, but didn't know that he would show up with Kara and the baby and my daughter, from Virginia....who rounded out the complete surprise! Can you imagine? The fact that I am blessed to have found such a wonderful man to share my life with is wonderful.....the fact that my kids love him and he loves them....well that's just frosting on the wedding cake! My family now includes three new sons, too, and a prouder Dad could not be found! It's easy to love a man who speaks of his sons with such love....and respect!
It was a glorious day!! The weather co-operated, our families were around us, our friends gathered to celebrate with us....what could have been a better way to rejoice two people having found one another? The pig roast and harvest pot-luck was scrumptious.....SO MUCH FOOD! Friends, old and new, came to enjoy the festivities and just the beauty of the day! We even had some kids...and adults....carving pumpkins!! I loved it! Sometimes it takes a gathering like this to make you open your eyes and see just how lucky you are.....family and friends....what else is there? Be sure to give YOUR loved one a hug and REMIND them they are loved....and that they are, indeed, special to you. Never take them for granted.....life can change in the blink of an eye....CELEBRATE your love of family....and friends!
I hope you enjoy just a few photos....indulge me ;-)

It's all about the love.........

Couldn't resist showing you all this picture of Mrs Wilson in Kens drum set. She decided it was a GREAT place for a nap.....AFTER they finished practice on Wednesday night.

I hate to think that it's almost time to bring in my angel from the garden!!
